WSOP - Strategy and Position

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Normally when one reads about strategy and position, it refers to poker. But Harrahs has it all figured out and none of it applies to poker. The strategy is to get all of the money they can, the position is what they put you in while they are doing it. Figure that Hershey is the official candy of the WSOP, Milwaukee’s Best is the official beer of the WSOP, Hertz is the official rental car of the WSOP, and I’m starting to believe Sapphire’s will be the official strip club of the WSOP. Tipping is not a city in China Part III

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Where was I? Ah-h-h-h-h yes, the Montana days. Those games went dry, literally, because the state legalized machines. Not like the machines in Vegas or the pay-outs that are available, but machine play that is totally designed to keep everyone B-R-O-K-E. Each establishment had a limit on how many machines they could have and each machine was licensed - OK no problem there. But unfortunately, the same crappy ‘pot limit law’ was in effect on the machines. If you put a quarter in a machine and hit 7 out of 7 on a keno game, it paid you $100. In Vegas it pays $1,750. If you put in four quarters, you could win $400. You can go broke but you can never win. (more…)

Stupendenous! Is that a word?

On Wednesday I received a phone call from ex-dealing pal (still my pal), Marty. He filled me in on what times the Super Satellites to the main events were and the cost, telling me I really should play in one since I wanted a seat in the main event. Yes, he’s right. I had dinner with my two boys and my nephew and we talked about Dan and I playing a super satellite and splitting out anything we won. We agreed it was a deal, we’d do it on Thursday. (more…)

The Fifth Annual WSO BBQ

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Hosted by Steve Z. and Suzie and Howard Lederer, was a seriously gi-hugeous affair. I invited my share of people just to add to the noise and confusion but to my knowledge, only two of them made it - Suzanne met me there and I picked up Tony G. and drove there. (more…)

Tipping is not a city in China! Part II

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Certain incidences in poker - this is about tipping BTW - that stick out in my thoughts are pretty funny. Like when I first started dealing, it was at the Oxford in Missoula MT. It’s close to another lifetime ago. There were two tables there, one in the front of the establishment that ran almost 24 hours a day and was $1-2 limit 5 Card Stud, ($2 on the river only) and the other was in a back room that housed two pan tables also. The one in the back room was called ‘the big game’. That’s incredibly funny now after having dealt to the Corporation and Andy Beal.

Tipping is not a city in China!

Tipping: Let’s not even play hardball, let’s just hamstring it, rip out its jugular, eat its heart while its still beating, and spill its innards across the continents - possibly spew a few of them into outer space.
