Dan and I started out with a plan this a.m. It semi worked. Las Vegas is overtaking the desert and all of my old favorite haunts for 4X off road and some hiking spots, are disappearing as fast as the sun sets on the horizon. It’s sickening - and scary. Where will it all end? And what will happen to that piece of red sandstone that I used to climb around over and down after I 4X’d up about five miles? (more…)

Those two girls came through like true champions yesterday. Mom did her part superbly and baby Katelyn celebrated her day of birth, debuting in at 6 pounds 6 ounces, 19 inches long, and upheld the world standard that babies are the coolest things on Earth. (more…)

I will start early, about 5 a.m. or so, and head North to Hyman Place. I’m picking up the mother of my new granddaughter to be. A trip to the hospital - induced labor - and hopefully by noon there will be a sweet little angel lying snuggled next to mom. I can hardly wait. I get the best part, picture taking, support, and probably a few tears - because I’m like that. So congrats are due…to me of course. Congratulations, Granny!

I won’t be heading towards the Bahamas this year as previously planned. I really don’t have any feeling about it one way or the other. I can say I’m happy to miss the hurricane season. I can also say this first year could be a total, deal ’til you drop, hectic little venture. But it could also be a lot of fun and plenty of E/O’s. Oh well. I just have to wait to hear it from people that got to go. (more…)

The whole of it is that family reunions are supposed to be exactly that, family getting together to spend time away from the rest of the world and settle comfortably into each other’s lives for a few moments in time. Those few moments are treasured, brought out now and then to hold once again to bask in the sharing, that feeling of complete unity, that part of our history that makes life just feel damn good.
