The Results of the PokerWorks HORSE Tourney

Better late than never, eh?  Kind of funny how things all hit at once, like the Bloggers coming to town and racing home from two days of that to play in the PokerWorks HORSE tourney, and wanting to whine about the way poker’s still treating me.  It sucks.  I’ve been on the longest dead run of cards that I ever remember being on.  And I’ve been playing in the WBCOOP – every day except yesterday.  I have to tell you it’s a bit freaking scary when I raise the pot to 700 in chips with blinds at 15-30 and get reraised 800 more all-in only to find the raiser is climbing in with 2-4 and hits a deuce to take me out.  I keep wondering WTF is really going on.  Ah…well…back to the PokerWorks HORSE.This was our starting line-up:

Seat 1: clearspine (1500 in chips)
Seat 3: PokerWorks (1500 in chips)
Seat 6: djhomeschool (1500 in chips)
Seat 7: grupper (1500 in chips)

I asked djhomeschool to clarify what kind of cakes he was talking about…but he never did.

djhomeschool said, “These cumcakes are couscous flavordd.”

He has a podcast, in case you want to search for an answer.

Charlie made the late registration and showed on the 12th hand

Seat 8: cmacc85

I was happy Charlie made it but our podcast buddy had this to say about it:

djhomeschool said, “Hey, why’d we get a 5th player to ruin my odds of cashing?”

PokerHack and JB couldn’t make it this time.  JB feigned in the interest of giving us a shot at placing in the money as his excuse (not really, he had a family obligation but he did say he’d give us a chance that way) and he’s been very in the money with our little tourneys.

I tried to talk Grupper into signing up for the WBCOOP and he said he couldn’t write.  That’s pretty funny.  Clearspine writes articles for PokerWorks, as does JB (jbharshaw), but no blog so they aren’t eligible.  But back to the tourney.

Clearspine’s daughter was preparing the gourmet meal for the family – his wife usually does – and she was running late.  The commentary was pretty funny.

clearspine said, “my daughter is attempting to cook dinner right now, it’s quite an effort”

PokerWorks said, “age?”

clearspine said, “she’s almost 14, and is trying a complex risotto dish”

PokerWorks said, “fun though, when she’s learning.”

clearspine said, “it’s now about 10 minutes from my little guy’s bedtime, and no food”

PokerWorks said, “ur wife is an excellent cook, right?”

clearspine said, “yes, but she’s letting her fly solo”

clearspine said, “i think yelling and recriminations may start in a few minutes”

grupper said, “How long did they plan the menu”

clearspine said, “not sure, i was smart and stayed completely out of it”

PokerWorks said, “*pats clearspine on back*”

grupper said, “Yeah.”

PokerWorks said, “dj was trying to cook something in a microwave the first time he played one of these” (looking back I see it was in a crockpot)

clearspine said, “just quietly did the laundry, and told them I was playing this tourney”

djhomeschool said, “Was I?”

djhomeschool said, “Probably just a Lean Cuisine though”

PokerWorks said, “yah, like popcorn or something difficult”

PokerWorks said, “charlie made a great bbq burger I think, and you were talking microwave”

djhomeschool said, “Well yeah. Lean Cuisine.”

djhomeschool said, “I had spaghetti tonight.”

djhomeschool said, “May have a Lean Cuisine later.”

djhomeschool said, “And I had couscous around 3 this morning.”

djhomeschool said, “Alright”

djhomeschool said, “Smoking pipe”

djhomeschool said, “Pretension levels ^^^^^^^”

clearspine said, “great. now the connection is freaking out”

PokerWorks said, “You disconnected, thought the kitchen blew up”

cmacc85 said, “gone from 1500 to 230 to 1830 in my other tourny. lol”

djhomeschool said, “Get Gordon Ramsay in there to yell at the kid for screwing up the risotto”

clearspine said, “just heard that the risotto is burning”

clearspine said, “think she should have started with burgers”

cmacc85 said, “I just learned badugi last week. It is fun.”

PokerWorks said, “yes, I dealt it for years to the high limit kids”

clearspine said, “my 12 year old son created his own buffalo chile from scratch earlier in the week, and it was AMAZING”

clearspine said, “but not earlier today”

PokerWorks said, “I’m talking the buffalo chile?”

cmacc85 said, “Linda, I was thinkg about you earlier in the week. Since you are no longer in the business, you should write a “tell all” book. All the dirt on the big names. lol”

clearspine said, “pleeeeeese, no more razz!!!!!!!”

djhomeschool said, “razz rulzz”

clearspine said, “it used to be the only game i played”

PokerWorks said, “Charlie, I started a book, and then restarted, etc.”

djhomeschool said, “You should try finishing.”

cmacc85 said, “I can understand. I can’t imagine doing one.”

PokerWorks said, “yes I should”

grupper said, “Linda. In all the entries, you have never really, explained WHY you went to Vegas”

PokerWorks said, “I dealt poker in MT for close to 10 years”

PokerWorks said, “even ran my own rooms for awhile”

grupper said, “yes, you’ve said that. Then jump to Vegas”

clearspine said, “how could you leave that fabulous weather in MT?”

PokerWorks said, “the games got really horrible in MT”

PokerWorks said, “hit or miss”

PokerWorks said, “my kids were leaving home for the service or running away”

PokerWorks said, “and I knew if I was going to deal for a living I had to go where poker was.”

grupper said, “Or CA?”

PokerWorks said, “no poker action there anymore”

grupper said, “Kay. Thx”

PokerWorks said, “I also worked big poker tournaments in Vegas, Reno, Tahoe”

PokerWorks said, “and I knew the Mirage was opening and I was auto hire for the room”

PokerWorks said, “that’s probably the main reason, I opened the Mirage”

grupper said, “Sounds like skilled people every where.”

clearspine said, “was it that close relationship with seigried and roy?”

PokerWorks said, “they have a ‘roy horn way’ now”

clearspine said, “does it have lots of bizarre accidents?”

djhomeschool said, “*sigh*”

djhomeschool said, “Win the first one, bust out first in all the others”

PokerWorks said, “I accidentally discovered it the other day”

PokerWorks said, “I bubbled 2 in a row”

clearspine said, “my seven year old has fallen asleep waiting for the dinner”

clearspine said, “nope. the little guy is asleep, and dinner is still a fantasy”

clearspine said, “my wife is starting to get involved, and the words are heating up more than the food”

grupper said, “OJT is hard”

clearspine said, “my wife just came in hysterically laughing”

PokerWorks said, “tell us”

clearspine said, “I quote:  “Her aspiration are great, but her skills are from my sister’s school of cooking”"

grupper said, “you are near a take out, aren’t you>”

clearspine said, “Her sister can’t boil wateer”

PokerWorks said, “grupper that’s funny”

clearspine said, “it’s too cold to go out.  5 below zero here”

PokerWorks said, “what’s the next move?”

grupper said, “lots of self defense lesson s”

clearspine said, “my daughter is actually a shao lin  kung foo brown belt”

PokerWorks said, “that’s really funny”

PokerWorks said, “don’t mess with that girl, especially in the kitchen where there are weapons”

clearspine said, “ok the risotto was just delivered”

PokerWorks said, “taste testing time”

clearspine said, “wow, it’s actually really good”

PokerWorks said, “that’s a huge plus”

While all the waiting for dinner and poker play was going on, djhomeschool went all in and thanks to his being all-in, I caught a wheel and busted him out first.  And that was on hand #71.  It would appear that we weren’t playing – chatting instead – but that’s not even close to being the case.  Clearspine had pocket Q’s in one hand and flopped a set, Charlie hit back-door runners to straight out and stay in the game.  And Grupper chimed right in with -

grupper said, “whats that dealers name again.”

Grupper and I both went out on hand 119, beat by Clearspine and Grupper took 3rd with more chips than me (congrats Grupper)…once again the bubble girl of the PokerWorks HORSE tourney.  *hahahaha-laughs hysterically*

Charlie and Clearspine battled back and forth for some time, although Clearspine had the chip lead throughout the battle, it went for quite awhile.  Since I was only a railbird, I can only tap the chat up to the point I was involved.  Congrats to Clearspine on 1st place.  Charlie must’ve been doing a Phil Hellmuth, show up late and still end up in the money.  *chuckle*

See you guys soon!

About Linda R. Geenen

The easiest way to begin is to start at the beginning. But where is that? At what point does one suddenly decide they are going to spend the rest of their life involved in the intricate art of the dance? What is the art of the dance? A game about people - played with a deck of cards. Poker! I stepped into the poker world in 1980 in Missoula, Montana. I didn’t know anything about poker, couldn’t tell you what the difference was between a bet and raise, or if a straight beat a flush. I had three boys to feed, needed a job and a dealing spot was open in one of the local bars. I played my first hand of poker in a 5 Card Stud game (with the help of one of my bosses) and that was it – I was hooked. I lived, breathed, slept, dreamed, ate, and talked poker. I eventually ran my own games (licensed by the County) in several different bars in Missoula, and at one point, managed the games in the bar where I started my first dealing job. In 1987 I traveled from Montana to Nevada to deal major poker tournaments, returning to Montana at the end of each one. In 1989, I opened The Mirage – along with 6,400 other people. In 1993, I moved to Gulfport, Mississippi, and opened Grand Casinos Poker Room, returning a year later to Las Vegas and The Mirage. In 1998 I opened Bellagio - along with over 9,000 other employees. In 2003, I dealt the final table of the Aruba Ultimate Bet Poker Classic event. Hey…I’m on TV! I had the privilege of being chosen as the dealer in the Howard Lederer videos that have been released on No Limit Holdem. I play poker on a regular basis and I deal to every name brand player that is still above ground and breathing air, the elite, the freaks, the ne’er do wells, the rich, the poor, the illiterate, the educated, the beautiful, the ugly, the superstitious, the rational, the sane, and the insane. Perhaps I am the one that is insane but if I am, I fit right into the game plan. Five nights a week I walk into the greatest, social melting pot known to mankind. I no longer dream about it but the art of the dance is prevalent in everything I do - see you there!
